STONE DETAILS

Apatite The word Apatite comes from the Greek “apatw” (fraud) because it is often amalgamated with other minerals. Apatite is a calcium phosphate mineral, which contains hydroxyl or fluoride or chloride ions (OH, F, Cl).  So, three different groups of apatite mineral are formed (hydroxylapatite, fluorapatite and chlorapatite), depending on the type of the ion in its chemical composition. Apatite can be green, blue, yellow, brown, purple, pink or colorless. It is characterized by the hexagonal crystal system and the hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale. Apatite can be found in many countries, including Brazil, USA, India, Sri Lanka, Germany, Spain, Madagascar, Pakistan, Africa and Mexico.

Hematite The word Hematite comes from the Greek word “aima” which means Blood, due to the red coloration found in some varieties of Hematite. It is an iron oxide with a chemical composition of Fe₂O₃, which is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 5-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Hematite can be found in various countries, including Brazil, India, the USA, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Russia, Ukraine and New Zealand.
