STONE DETAILS

Lapis Lazuli Its name comes from the Persian word lazhuward- “blue of the sky”. It belongs to the silicate minerals in the tectosilicate group and has a dark blue color, which is due to its main component lazurite. Lazuli lapis also contains calcite (white), sodalite (blue) and ferropyrite (‘golden’ spots). It is characterised by an isometric crystal structure and a hardness of 5-5,5 on the Mohs scale. Lapis Lazuli comes from various countries, some of which are Afghanistan, the USA, Canada, Argentina, India, Pakistan, Russia, India, Pakistan, Russia and Chile.

Turquoise Its name comes from the French word “turquoise”, which means “Turkish” ,because this mineral was first brought to Europe, via Turkey, from mines in Iran. In Ancient Greece it was known as “Kallaitis” or “Kallais stone”, meaning “good stone”. Turquoise is a hydrated phosphate hydrate of aluminium and copper. It is characterized by a triclinic crystal system and a hardness of 5-6 on the Mohs scale. Turquoise is mainly sourced from Iran, China, Chile, Egypt, Mexico and the USA.
