STONE DETAILS
The name comes from the ancient Greek name of the river Dirillo (Agate) in Sicily, where it was first discovered. Agate is a variety of chalcedony and is a member of the microcrystalline quartz family. In terms of its chemical composition, agate is a silica and belongs to the silicate minerals in the group of tectosilicates. It is characterised by a triangular crystal system and a hardness of 6,5-7 on the Mohs scale. Generally there are many varieties of Agate, which come from different places around the world and show a wide variety of colours. Agate comes from various regions, some of which are Brazil, USA, India, Africa, Uruguay, Peru and Mexico. The blue colour of the agate slice is the result of special processing.
