STONE DETAILS
The origin of the name peridot is uncertain, but there is a version that supports that the name of the stone is believed to come from either the Arabic word “faridat” which means “precious stone” or the French word “peritot” which means “unclear”. It is a variety of olivine and It is a magnesium iron silicate mineral, which is characterized by the orthorhombic crystal system and the hardness of 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale. Its color ranges from yellowish-green to dark olive-green and the intensity of green color is depended on how much iron the mineral includes. Peridot is derived from different areas, including Arizona, Afghanistan, Egypt, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and Pakistan.
