STONE DETAILS
The word “pyrite” is taken from the Greek word «pyr» meaning fire, because pyrite produces sparks when struck by metal surface. Many years ago, they used to call it “fool’s gold”, because of its colour that resembles that of gold. Pyrite or Ironpyrite is one of the most common sulphide minerals with a chemical composition of FeS2 (iron disulfide). It is characterized by the cubic crystal system and the hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Pyrite is derived mostly from Peru, the USA, Bolivia and Spain.
