The name “Malachite” comes from the Greek word “malachos” (soft), due to its soft texture and bright green color. Malachite is a copper mineral and belongs to the category of carbonate minerals, with the chemical composition Cu₂(CO₃)(OH)₂. Its characteristic green color is due to the copper it contains. Its hardness is 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale, and it is characterized by a monoclinic crystal system. Fibrous Malachite is a variation of Malachite that forms in fibers and usually has a softer and lighter texture compared to other forms. Visually, fibrous Malachite may have a distinctive texture resembling needles or fragments, while maintaining its characteristic bright green color. Malachite can be found in various countries, including the Congo (especially fibrous Malachite), Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Kazakhstan, and the Ural Mountains.
