STONE DETAILS

Lapis lazuli comes from the Persian word ”lazhuward” (sky blue). It is a silicon mineral and belongs in the group of tectosilicate minerals. Lapis Lazuli has strong blue color, due to Lazurite, which is the main component of Lapis Lazuli. It contains also calcite (white), sodalite (blue) and pyrite (“gold” shimmers). It is characterized by the hardness of 5-5.5 on the Mohs and the Isometric crystal system. Lapis Lazuli can be found in different countries, including Afghanistan, the USA, Canada, Argentina, India, Pakistan, Russia and Chile.
