STONE DETAILS
Apatite:
The word Apatite comes from the Greek “apatw” (fraud) because it is often amalgamated with other minerals. Apatite is a calcium phosphate mineral, which contains hydroxyl or fluoride or chloride ions (OH, F, Cl). So, three different groups of apatite mineral are formed (hydroxylapatite, fluorapatite and chlorapatite), depending on the type of the ion in its chemical composition. Apatite can be green, blue, yellow, brown, purple, pink or colorless. It is characterized by the hexagonal crystal system and the hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale. Apatite can be found in many countries, including Brazil, USA, India, Sri Lanka, Germany, Spain, Madagascar, Pakistan, Africa and Mexico.
Crystal Quartz:
The name Quartz derives from the German word “Quartz” that is of Slavic origin. The Ancient Greeks referred to quartz as “xalazias” that derives from the Greek word “xalaza”, which means hail, due to the fact that in ancient times many people believed that it is solidified water. Quartz is a silicate mineral, belonging to the tectosilicate group, with a chemical formula of SiO2. Quartz is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. It can be found in many different places worldwide, including Brazil, the USA, Sri Lanka, India and Madagascar.
Pearl:
The word ‘Pearl’ originates from the ancient Greek word ‘margarites,’ which is thought to derive from the verb ‘marmairo,’ meaning ‘to shine’ or ‘to sparkle.’ Pearls are formed within mollusks as a defense mechanism against foreign particles or irritants that enter the shell. The mollusk secretes layers of nacre, a combination of aragonite (a crystalline form of calcium carbonate) and organic proteins like conchiolin, gradually forming a pearl. Due to their organic origin, pearls have a unique layered microstructure rather than a single crystalline lattice. They have a hardness of 2.5 to 4.5 on the Mohs scale, making them relatively soft compared to other gemstones.”
