It is a silicate mineral (silicone dioxide), that belongs to the Quartz family and it is formed of bands of chalcedony in alternating colors. Onyx is characterized by the hardness of 6- 7 on the Mohs scale and the trigonal crystal system. Onyx derives from different countries including Brazil, Mexico, Algeria, Uruguay, Greece, Germany, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, the USA, Latin America and India.
