STONE DETAILS

Onyx The word Onyx comes from the ancient Greek and means nail. It is a silicone dioxide-that is a type of Quartz, and has a hardness of 6- 7 on the Mohs scale. It has a trigonal crystal system and can be found in Brazil, Mexico, Algeria, Uruguay and India, to name just a few.  

Black Tourmaline The name has its origins in the Sri Lankan language, and their word “touramali”, which is a word they used to describe their precious stones. Tourmaline is a boron silicate mineral, which is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale. Tourmaline comes in different colours, and every colour has its own name- for example black tourmaline is known as schrol. The different colours are generally referred to by their identifying colour. Tourmaline can be found in various countries, including Brazil, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tanzania, the USA and Norway.

Hematite The word Hematite comes from the Greek word “aima” which means Blood, due to the red coloration found in some varieties of Hematite. It is an Iron Oxide, which is characterized by the hexagonal crystal system and the hardness of 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Hematite can be found in various countries, including Brazil, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand.
