STONE DETAILS
Morganite Morganite is named after J. P. Morgan, an American financier, banker and gem enthusiast, who had built two of the world’s most important gem collections. This mineral is a variety of beryl that belongs to the category of cyclosilicates. Its coloration is due to the presence of trace amounts of manganese and ranges from pink to peachy-pink hues. It is characterized by the hexagonal crystal system and the hardness of 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale. Some of the most important sources of Morganite include Madagascar, Brazil, the USA, Afghanistan and Mozambique.
Pyrite The word “pyrite” is taken from the Greek word «pyr» meaning fire, because pyrite produces sparks when struck by metal surface. Many years ago, they used to call it “fool’s gold”, because of its colour that resembles that of gold. Pyrite or Ironpyrite is one of the most common sulphide minerals with a chemical composition of FeS2 (iron disulfide). It is characterized by the cubic crystal system and the hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Pyrite is derived mostly from Peru, the USA, Bolivia and Spain.
