STONE DETAILS
The name “Chrysoprase” is derived from the Greek words ‘chrysos’ (because of its shine) and “prasion” (because of its greenish colour that resembles leek). It is a green variety of chalcedony, that belongs to the silicate mineral group (SiO₂). Its characteristic green hue is due to small amounts of nickel. Its colour ranges from light to deep apple green. It is characterised by a trigonal crystal system and a hardness of 6,5 – 7 on the Mohs scale and occurs in solid masses without forming individual crystals. The main sources of chrysoprase are Australia, India, Madagascar, Madagascar, the USA, Poland, Brazil, Tanzania and Kazakhstan.
