STONE DETAILS
Labradorite takes its name from the Labrador region of Canada where it was first discovered. Blue Labradorite displays a dark grey-blue-green hue , as well as iridescence of various shades when turned towards the light due to reflections occurring within the rock. In contrast, white labradorite is white in colour with blue iridescence. This phenomenon is called ‘labradorism’ and the iridescence is usually blue, purple green and orange in colour. Labradorite is a silicate mineral of the class of tectosilicates and belongs to the group of alkaline feldspars. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 6-6.5 and is characterized by a triclinic crystal system. Labradorite can be found in several countries, some of which are Canada, Madagascar, Australia, Mexico and the USA.
