STONE DETAILS

Lapis Lazuli Lapis lazuli comes from the Persian word ”lazhuward” (sky blue). It is a silicon mineral and belongs in the group of tectosilicate minerals. Lapis Lazuli has strong blue color, due to Lazurite, which is the main component of Lapis Lazuli. It contains also calsite (white), sodalite (blue) and pyrite (“gold” shimmers). It is characterized by the hardness of 5-5.5 on the Mohs and the Isometric crystal system. Lapis Lazuli can be found in different countries, including Afghanistan, the USA, Canada, Argentina, India, Pakistan, Russia and Chile.

Pyrite The word “pyrite” is taken from the Greek word «pyr» meaning Fire. That name was given to the mineral, as Pyrite was used to spark flames to light fires. Pyrite, or iron pyrite, is an iron disulfide, which is characterized by the cubic crystal system and the hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Pyrite is derived mostly from Peru, the USA, Bolivia and Spain.  

Hematite The word Hematite comes from the Greek word “aima” which means Blood, due to the red coloration found in some varieties of Hematite. It is an Iron Oxide, which is characterized by the hexagonal crystal system and the hardness of 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Hematite can be found in various countries, including Brazil, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand.

Lapis Lazuli  Lapis Lazuli is referred to as the Erotic stone and is connected to Aphrodite.  Useful in attracting new friends, and ensuring the continuing love of old ones.
