STONE DETAILS
Amethyst The word Amethyst has its origins in the Greek words “a” and “methw” Not Intoxicated, as in years gone by, it was believed that Amethyst protected against drunkenness. Amethyst belongs to the quartz family and it is a silicate mineral with a chemical formula SiO2. Its color is due to the presence of iron. Amethyst is characterized by the trigonal crystal system and the hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. Amethyst is derived mostly from Brazil and Uruguay.
Pyrite The word “pyrite” is taken from the Greek word «pyr» meaning Fire. That name was given to the mineral, as Pyrite was used to spark flames to light fires. Pyrite, or iron pyrite, is an iron disulfide, which is characterized by the cubic crystal system and the hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Pyrite is derived mostly from Peru, the USA, Bolivia and Spain.
