STONE DETAILS

The name Diopside is derived from the Greek words “dis” which means “twice” and “opse” which means “face”, referring to the two ways of orienting the vertical prism. It is a calcium magnesium silicate mineral that belongs to the pyroxene group. Its hardness is measured at 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs scale and it is characterized by the monoclinic crystal system. Diopside can be found in various countries, including Canada, South Africa, Russia, Brazil, the USA, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Italy and Austria.
