STONE DETAILS
Lapis Lazuli Lapis lazuli comes from the Persian word ”lazhuward” (sky blue). It is a silicon mineral and belongs in the group of tectosilicate minerals. Lapis Lazuli has strong blue color, due to Lazurite, which is the main component of Lapis Lazuli. It contains also calcite (white), sodalite (blue) and pyrite (“gold” shimmers). It is characterized by the hardness of 5-5.5 on the Mohs and the Isometric crystal system. Lapis Lazuli can be found in different countries, including Afghanistan, the USA, Canada, Argentina, India, Pakistan, Russia and Chile.
Topaz Its name is derived from the Greek word “Τopazios”, which was the ancient name of Zabargad Island in the Red Sea. This island once used to produce Peridot, which was confused with the Topaz. Topaz is an aluminum silicate mineral with a chemical composition of Al2SiO4(F,OH)2 and it occurs in nature in various colors such as yellow, orange, blue, pink, red, brown, green and colorless. It is characterized by the orthorhombic crystal system and the hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale. Sources of topaz include Brazil, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Australia, Namibia, Madagascar, Mexico, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Russia and the USA.
Pearl The word Margaritari -Pearl, originates from the ancient Greek word “marmairo” which means Glow. The pearl containing mollusks in their role of protecting against any incursions of foreign bodies into the shell secrete a substance which isolates the invader in a pearl sac. The protective cloak surrounds the foreign body, thus forming the pearl, with layers of calcium carbonate. Pearls are characterized by their orthorhombic crystal system and the hardness of 2.5-4.5 on the Mohs scale.
