STONE DETAILS
The word Margaritari -Pearl, originates from the ancient Greek word “marmairo” which means Glow. The pearl containing mollusks in their role of protecting against any incursions of foreign bodies into the shell secrete a substance which isolates the invader in a pearl sac. The protective cloak surrounds the foreign body, thus forming the pearl, with layers of calcium carbonate. Pearls are characterized by their orthorhombic crystal system and the hardness of 2.5-4.5 on the Mohs scale.
